Projects

All Projects are focused on fighting climate change and include a variety of diverse tactics for doing so.  The items below give a description of our current projects and below that are future projects we aim to take on as well.

An Education Vessel
This is one of our main project: We intend to raise funds for the purchase and maintenance of a ship that will be sent out into the sea, which will be called the “Robert Lorne Hunter." Its goal will be to tour cities around the world promoting education about climate change, as well, potentially to conduct research on climate change. In addition, the current proposal is to have the ship fuelled completely by green energy.

Alternative Energy
Another major project for our Foundation is to work with alternative energy activists and work co-operatively with other like-minded organizations to promote green energy initiatives and the expansion of existing energy solutions like wind power. Bob had a vision for the future, and a big part of this was wind farms. True to his spirit of co-operation, Bob was a proud shareholder in the Windshare co-op that owns and operates the TREC turbine windmill located in front of Exhibition Place in Toronto.

Protecting our Natural Environment
This project will focus on raising funds and gathering volunteers to help expand and maintain a park in Rouge Valley in Markham, Ontario – The Bob Hunter Memorial Park. The Rouge was a place of beautiful natural heritage that Bob, along with many others, helped to protect and save for future generations.  Bob contributed to saving the Rouge by putting a spotlight on this issue using his media power as Ecology Specialist for City TV. The Rouge is a growing and vibrant natural space in the Greater Toronto Area, and Bob Hunter Memorial Park links it to the Greenbelt that has been created to protect the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Help us develop this Memorial Park, and help turn it into a symbol for protecting our natural heritage, a symbol that everyone can understand and take part in.

Library of Knowledge
The proposal is to build a library of all of Bob Hunter's creative material, from his published and un-published books, articles, comic books, scripts to his films and TV episodes. This library will ultimately be made available to the public to view at the location and even to copy and take home some materials. We hope in the future to have a small museum as well, in which the library will be placed in – this will also be in the same location as the future office of the Foundation. Our hope is to attract students from Universities and Colleges, and even high schools to promote understanding in how an individual can make a difference and how individuals can make positive environmental changes, which is something all youth should believe in.

Future Projects

  • Today's Youth is Tomorrow's Future - We hope to promote education in our school systems on climate change and related energy issues by creating educational packages and doing presentations to students in classes wherever invited.

  • Sponsoring an Activist - We hope to create a program where we set up sponsors to raise funds to send an able-bodied but financially challenged activist to a place in the world needing serious attention. To do this, we would hook up with a local environmental N.G.O., and give them the extra bodies they need to take action. The sponsored activist will report back to us and their sponsors as well using regular blog entries. For those that can’t get out there and take action on behalf of the planet themselves, sponsoring an activist may be the next best thing.

  • Sponsoring a Student - We hope to institute a program such as the one above in 'Sponsoring an Activist,' however in this program we would sponsor a student from University or College for a set period of time to work with an environmental organization on a serious environmental issue. Students would work as a volunteer with the environmental N.G.O. that suits them best. Whether the students are studying Economics, Visual Arts or Environmental Science – all students will be welcome to apply and participate in this program. By placing more of today's youth and tomorrow's future around the world to deal with environmental issues directly and learning about what can be done to solve these issues – we believe this would give them the experience they need to work effectively towards a brighter future for us all.
